exotic equatorial excursions

Bali has something for everyone. It is a major tourist spot, warm all year round, and small enough that a person can drive from coast to coast in less than a day.

As far as exotic eastern locales go, Bali has it all. It’s own form of Hinduism, it’s own musical style (balinese gamelan).

Located on the western coast of Bali in the village of Lalanglinggah, a peaceful spot, far enough away from the bustle of Denpasar to feel transported to paradise…but easy to get to. A quick walk from Lalanlinggah is Balian beach, the beach of Bali. — black sand and great for surfing.

This beach is ideal for an oceanic holiday, romantic getaway, or peaceful retreat. Bisected by the Balian river, one side of the beach is great for surfing and the other for swimming.

Located conveniently near the beach is the best hotel in the area, Shankari’s Bali Retreat. With three swimming pools, yoga center, wireless internet and a great restaurant run by a top-notch, bilingual staff, this resort is perfect for those who want to get away from it all while still having access to basic western amenities. You get the best of both worlds.

The design of the landscape architecture is intriguing. Instead of one or two impersonal structures stuck in the middle of a few boring acres, the hotel itself is built into the beautifully manicured countryside. Functional design dovetailed with nature in peace, respectful of the history and tradition of the land.

The newest addition to the hotel is a large yoga studio, suited for class sizes up to 35 people. Constructed in traditional Balinese style, with open walls covered in Indonesian tirai, the traditional bamboo mats used as retractable wall coverings, it’s as close to doing yoga outside as you can get while still being in an enclosed. It’s completely peaceful and you get all the benefits of fresh air, surrounded by fruit trees and the gentle sounds of wind in the bamboo.

The swimming pools are also wonderful. The first one, located upstairs near the restaurant and gift shop, is the Sri Yantra pool. Shankari personally supervised the laying of each tile to ensure it is geometrically perfect, enabling the grid to be activated. It is perfect for cooling off and soothing your mind. The Ganesha Meditation Waterfall pool is a quiet spot to relax — behind the waterfall is a cave, for meditation, prayer and refection. The 3rd pool is 27 m long and features two mosaic serpents on the bottom, perfect for doing laps, this pool was created in honor of the spirit of the land who resides in the temple nearby. Meditating on the power of Kundalini while swimming in it will bring you closer to your own experience of the cosmic forces.

All in all, Shankari’s Bali Retreat is a perfect spot for a great holiday in bali. You will walk into paradise and experience the beautiful serenity that is Bali, the land, the people and the culture.
