Many Balinese Art Objects in Austria

Embassy or Permanent Mission of Indonesia in cooperation with the Vienna Museum of Ethnology Vienna “Museum fur Volkerkunde” held exhibition of cultural objects that were written in the book “Balinese Art in Transition” which is a testament of the discovery of a collection of art objects and artifacts contained in the Balinese culture Austria.

The book “Balinese Art in Transition” which was launched recently in Austria, said Djati Ismojo the Counsellor  of Social Culture.

He said the exhibition which lasted until 2 May that aims to provide opportunities to the international community, Austria and the book the reader can immediately see the great work of a painter in Bali, I Gusti Nyoman Lempad which provides plenty of inspiration for Western artists of his time.

Besides that also showcased the work of Walter Lamak Spies who has lived in Ubud, Bali, and provide plenty of inspiration to the young Balinese painters who are members of the association.

Bali Night Culture Exhibition escorts the opening of great exhibition.  The exhibition opening was attended by approximately 500 invitations from the diplomatic community, community art lovers, the people of Indonesia and the Friends of Indonesia.

The Balinese-Chinese

A Pemangku in a place of Tridharma worship (klenteng), Tanjung Benoa, Bali, doing clean-up before the Lunar New Year. Also, almost all Klenteng on the island of Bali acculturated the Chinese culture and Bali (Shiva Buddha).

Frenetic of man-woman dressed in traditional Balinese cloth called poleng, Udeng (fastener heads), and white kebaya was busy cleaning the Chinese stone lions, dragon carved Balinese style, and Chinese incense burner (hio lo) at Po Kong Cong Pagoda in the Temple Ulundanu, Kintamani , Bali, Saturday (29/01/2011).

A row of red lanterns inscribed Mandarin character fu (fortune) and Chinese talisman breeze blowing, the smell of incense, flowers praying, and the sound of bells accompany the reading of the Vedas (Hindu Scriptures) was beautiful chime in Ulundanu Pura Batur.

There was a greeting and joking in Balinese at Po Kong Temple Cong. Holy water (tirta), puspa, and Chinese incense burner in front of the main altar prepared Cong Po Kong, where Ida Ratu Gede Ngurah Subandar (Kongco Cong Po Kong) revered. Places Hindu and Confucian worship prepared carefully by the male-female from Bali and the Chinese half-blood community in the pagoda.

At the same time, several men dressed in Hindu and Buddhist clergy sat side by side on a Bale Paruman in front of the Shrine Cong Po Kong. Wayan Liastra, Batur village residents, preparing Penjor which will be installed in front of the pagoda. “It’s voluntary work. All mutual aid if there is a ceremony, “said Liastra.

They blend perfectly in Bali

They are not of Chinese descent. Their religion was Hindu Bali. However, they are only one intention, ngayah (serve).

In addition to menyama braya (mutual assistance), the inherent habit is ngayah, like Mrs Rangki. Ngayah not limit the space and time, not even limited with religion. Ngayah were addressed to Sang Hyang Widi, the gods, and ancestors.

Mrs Rangki admitted to not hesitate to dedicate herself and her husband in the temple. “It’s our devotion to the god Varuna,” she said softly.

Yes, there is similarity of the name of god in Chinese and Balinese Hindu belief, the Lord of the Sea (Yatikong) with the god Varuna. Maybe that also strengthens the brotherhood in Tanjung Benoa, about 30 kilometers from Denpasar.

Cao Eng Bio Temple existed since 1546, reputedly founded by Chinese merchants who arrived on the island through the Port of Benoa. Originally the temple was in the area of Pura Dalem Ning a few meters from the temple that exist today. Around Year 1800, the Castle (royal), Denpasar, gave the land to build the present temple stands.

Furthermore, they were offspring. Assimilation among them by absorbing the culture of Bali, as stakeholders (biokong) dressed in traditional Balinese temples, including a headband (Udeng).

The Indonesian government expressed no objection if the organizers of “New7Wonders” suspend or remove the Komodo National Park from the list of 28 finalists.

New7Wonders Foundation has announced as the organizer announce the status of Komodo Island as finalists will be suspended starting on February 7, 2011.

Minister of Culture and Tourism Jero Wacik told the deletion of Komodo. He said, in December last, New7Wonders Foundation meet him. “They asked Indonesia to host a declaration on November 11, 2011.
